Denton is a city in North Texas. It is about 60 miles north of Dallas and is home to the University of North Texas, UNT. Denton is a city with a lot of different aspects to it including a historic downtown area that has been established for centuries. It has a population of over 136,195 residents according to the 2009 census.
Denton was founded in 1846 as an outpost along the eastern stage lines. In 1856, a fire destroyed most of the business district of Denton and it was relocated to the current location which is now Downtown Denton. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the population boomed due to several cotton processing mills located in Denton. As a result, there are many historical Victorian homes that have been preserved throughout Denton.
On top of this, Denton has grown into one (or possibly two) burgeoning communities in recent years with a large population and workforce. 2015 was the year when Denton became known as the next Austin with restaurants and other businesses expanding at an exponential rate.

It was built in 1904 and it featured amenities like a roof garden, running water, and electricity. It also once had an “electric elevator” that was considered state of the art at the time.
UNT also has a planetarium which is one of only 12 in the entire country. The library offers over 2 million books and other media materials to students, faculty, staff members, researchers, and alumni alike. There is something for everyone here.
